Reconnecting with the Workplace is the title of a 90-minute webinar held on Friday, February 11, 2022. This program was cosponsored by the ABA Law Practice Division and was part of the ABA Midyear Meeting.
The program explored the impact of changes in the workplace on women in the legal profession. What has stepping away from the workplace meant and what opportunities have been presented as a result of “the new normal”?
Panelists representing in-house, private practice, and government settings discussed their approach to these challenges and the impacts in their practice settings and opportunities presented going forward. Panel members included Julie Simon, Chief Legal Officer and Chief Diversity Officer, Mary Kay, Inc.; Kelly Twiss Noonan, Managing Shareholder at Stokes Lawrence (Seattle), Betty Ungerman, Vice President and General Counsel, Lennox International, Inc.; and Maritza Dominguez Braswell, newly named federal magistrate judge for the U.S. District Court of Colorado, who spoke from the perspective of her work with as a deputy attorney general for the State of Colorado. Kit Chaskin, Director and Caitlin M.W. Annatoyn, Assistant Director of Northwestern Pritzker School of Law’s Gender Equity Initiatives, framed the discussion with data regarding the impact of COVID-19.

The Moderators:
Kit Chaskin, Director of Northwestern Pritzker School of Law’s Gender Equity Initiatives, practiced law for 28 years prior to returning to Northwestern University, where she earned her undergraduate and law degrees. She was previously a partner at Reed Smith in Chicago, where she was also the Global Director of the Women’s Initiative Network.
Caitlin Annatoyn, Assistant Director of Northwestern Pritzker School of Law’s Gender Equity Initiatives, practiced law for 10 years at two major law firms in Chicago. A substantial portion of her practice was the pro bono representation of people facing systemic gender-based barriers to success. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan Law School.
